The role of the youth in peace keeping was one of the key issues that took centre stage during stakeholders peace forum held at Africa Inland Church in Kibera on Wednesday.

The forum brought together stakeholders from various organisations as well as representatives from the government.

The all inclusive meeting was meant to tighten the efforts already put in place to ensure peaceful coexistence among the residents of Kibera.

Various key note speakers had a strong message to the youth regarding their role in ensuring peace prevails even in tough political times.

"Our young people are the most vulnerable, and for that reason, they should not allow to be used irresponsibly by the politicians. It is not in order for people to destroy property or attack their opponents in the case of political differences. The youth should be at the forefront in ensuring that the Kibera community enjoys harmony," said Nyamumbo Sese, Deputy County Commissioner, Kibera sub-County.

While assuring the residents of security during demonstrations, Sese called upon the demonstrators to embrace peaceful protests that will ensure protection of life and property.

"Kibera has witnessed several cases of unrest during protests as people get hurt while others lose property. The role of the security agencies is to protect every citizen including those demonstrating; it is my plea that our young people who are normally the larger population protest to ensure that they conduct such actions peacefully according to the law," he added.

Sang'ombe ward MCA Pius Owino K'otieno who also addressed the forum reiterated on the need for the youth to embrace soberness when approaching political matters.

"Demonstrations are allowed constitutionally and we shall continue having them in various occasions where need be. However there is need for our young people to draw a line by ensuring that protests don't take the extreme angles that lead to enmity among the people," said K'otieno.

The forum brought together organisations such as Carolina For Kibera, Umande Trust, Amani Kibera, Plycom Development Project, and Octopizzo Foundation.

National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) was also represented.
