To Kibera youth, however, this is something close to a fairy tale.

Kibera youth, over a number of times, have been on news headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Most of the Kibera residents are suffocating amidst rampant cases of unemployment. Many of them walk around city estates in search of casual jobs, reliably in Mjengo sites. However, if the job hunt becomes unsuccessful, they turn their energies elsewhere to nurse their frustrations. Some of them opt to criminal activities like pickpocketing which often results in mob justice and eventually death.

During election campaigns, Kibera people are seen pooling up their numbers in support of their favourite aspirants. For instance, the just witnessed Monday demonstrations by Cord at the Anniversary towers which consisted of a good number of Kibera youth.

In the past, Kibera people have been on record collectively removing railway lines traversing their area. This can now be related to a statement made by a Nairobi based business analyst, Ngure David, who said these are the things that make the slums lag behind as compared to other Nairobi slums.

As a word of concern, he urged the Kibera residents, especially the youth, to set their priorities right and engage in other productive businesses other than their 'trademarked' destructive misguided actions.
