Kibra MP Ken Okoth has dispelled rumors that he will be contesting for the Nairobi governor seat in the 2022 general election.

The ODM MP in an interview on KTN News on Monday said that he is not focused on 2022 politics.

The second time Kibra lawmaker stated that his agenda is to serve resident's,  adding that 2022 politics will play out when the right time comes.

He said those linking him to the Nairobi governor seat in 2022 wants to distract his development agenda.

"I am focused on serving Kibra people now and have no time for the 2022 succession politics," he said.

The ODM MP however said that he will gladly  accept if his constituents asks him to run for higher office.

"It's all about the people and I will be guided by their decision but for now I am focused on tackling the issues facing them," he said.

The Orange party MP pleaded with politicians to shun the 2022 succession debates.

He said that elected leaders have abandoned their duties and are now campaigning for seats in the 2022 polls.

"We must stop this ugly debates and focus on serving people who elected us to office," he said.

There are claims that Okoth could bid for the Nairobi governor seat in 2022.

The ODM MP's constituency has been several times voted as the best for prudent utilisation of   the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Okoth has also been hailed for initiating key projects and championing education in Kibra. 

According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Okoth has the qualities and political support base for a governor.

"He (MP Okoth) appeals to youth and could make a strong candidate for Nairobi governor seat if he decides to contest," he said in an interview on Monday.
