Kibra residents are waiting to see who will replace the outgoing Deputy County Commissioner for Langata sub-county following the transfer of Mr John Elungata.
Mr Elungat has been transferred and promoted to the rank of County Commissioner in charge of Kisumu County.
Mr Elungata is among officers affected by the recent reshuffle of senior government officials made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.
“He was an open person who we would go to at any time," a resident, Survivor Jet, a jua kali artisan at Toi market in Kibra.
"He helped in resolving land disputes at Toi market and for that reason, we hope that the next officer will work even harder because Kibra is an area that needs a dedicated person."
The youth also expressed gratitude to the promoted officer for being at the forefront championing for National Youth Service programmes in Kibra.
They said through his leadership, the programmes had seen many youth engage in income generating activities.
“Elungata was a good leader who encouraged us to join NYS in order to get something for survival," another resident Musa Abondo said.
"It is good that most youth have reformed because the commissioner led the fight against illicit brew in Kibra."
On his side Sarang’ombe location Chief Danvas Mogire wished him well in his new position as Langata sub-county awaits the new DDC.
“We are happy for him because his good work has earned him a higher position," said Mogire.
"We worked together especially on matters security. We hope that by Monday we shall have known the new person taking over his position."
The last public forum in Kibra attended by Elungata was held at Soweto Academy where he addressed issues including rising cases of pregnancies among school girls, insecurity and peaceful co-existence in Kibra.
