Women in Kibra on Wednesday held a peace meeting three days after the area experienced violent protests that followed IEBC’s declaration that President Uhuru Kenyatta won the August 8 presidential election.

Discussions in the meeting entailed deliberating on issues that affect women since they suffer the most during violence times.

IEBC’s announcement that Uhuru beat NASA leader Raila Odinga prompted protests in some opposition strongholds, particularly in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Nairobi’s Mathare and Kibra.

Protesters vandalised property and burnt business stalls as police tried to disperse rowdy youth in Kibra on Saturday and Sunday.

Gunshots rented the air in Africa’s second largest slum as residents stayed indoors.
