Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has supported the plan by National Super Alliance (Nasa) to set up a parallel tallying center in the August general election.
Kibwana noted that the move does not dispute the fact that the electoral body is the only entity authorised to announce election results.
He added that there is no law that stops any party from compiling their own results in an election.
“The proposed parallel tallying centre will not be different from international monitoring units which follow polls,” said Kibwana.
Speaking in Kilungu, Tuesday, during an inspection of works at Ngunguni bus park, the governor asked Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to permit political parties have their own tallying centres for the purpose of transparency.
“This will help each party know the votes they have garnered and whether they tally with the IEBC results,” he noted.
“We will not accept a stolen election,” Kibwana added.
Jubilee has however opposed the setting up of the tallying centres claiming it is unconstitutional.
