Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has defended the nomination of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's eldest son to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

In a media briefing on Thursday, Kibwana maintained that Kennedy Musyoka was the most qualified candidate among those presented to Wiper Party, adding that due process was followed prior to Musyoka's nomination.

The governor further observed that Musyoka has a constitutional right to hold a public office like every other Kenyan.

"He was the best candidate among the eight who applied. Five came for the interview," he said.

"We cannot overlook someone's constitutional rights and yet he is qualified," he added.

Musyoka's nomination to EALA has brewed a political contest in the country, with National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale threatening to lead parliament in the rejection of Musyoka's nomination.

Duale accused Wiper of favouritism and nepotism.
