Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has issued a stern warning to tycoons allegedly grabbing public land in the county.
Kibwana said cartels have invaded the county and are grabbing public land.
Speaking to journalists in Kibwezi Town on Wednesday, the Makueni Governor said he will not negotiate with or tolerate land grabbers.
The Wiper Governor gave tycoons who have grabbed public land two weeks to surrender the property or face the law.
He said grabbing of public land remains a serious threat to development.
"Time is up for public land grabbers and we are going to smoke them out with the full force and repossess the property," Kibwana said.
The governor indicated that his government is working with the Lands Ministry and the National Lands Commission (NLC) to address the issue.
Kibwana asked the national government to speed up issuance of land title deeds to genuine land owners to avert grabbing and land conflicts.
"Eight percent of disputes and conflicts in Makueni and larger Ukambani involves land matters," Kibwana said.
Kibwana also asked residsnts to be cautious when dealing with land issues to avoid being duped by conmen.
