The Director of Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Dr Julius Jwan has dismissed any possibility of failure of the new 2-6-6-3 education curriculum.Speaking on Thursday during a textbook distribution exercise at the Kisumu Girls High School in Kisumu, Dr Jwan said the new curriculum is undergoing a trial so that any challenges experienced can be addressed before full rollout.“This is a pilot. A pilot is a trial. We are testing and if there are any challenges that are emerging that is part of the pilot. What we’ll be looking at is how to make it better so that by the time we come to the full rollout everything is in place,” said Dr Jwang. The director defended the delay in distribution of the new curriculum designs, saying it is due to logistical challenges.“We only have specific printing machines in this country. I am told they are four and all the publishers have gone to these four major printing firms. I think this could have dragged the publishers a little,” he said. The Ministry of Education in collaboration with other stakeholders has already rolled out a pilot programme for the new academic curriculum in the country. The 2-6-6-3 system replaces the 30-year-old 8-4-4 curriculum. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kisumu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
