The venture, which he started has paid him well and says supports him in getting money for upkeep.

Speaking to this writer on Friday, Mr Ochieng said he learnt how to make shoes from their neighbour who does the same business.

He sells his shoes between Sh200 and Sh400 each.

According to the 18-year-old, he sells up to ten pairs a day, translating into between Sh2,000 and Sh4,000 a day.

His neighbour, who is his mentor, acquires the materials which they use to make the shoes from Kisumu town.

"I don't like to be idle and so I resolved to do this to keep me busy, and get some income as well. I started by selling the shoes for my neighbour who made them. Later he taught me the process and we now make them together," he said during the interview.

Though they have a shop, Ochieng said he chooses to vend the shoes because not many people know the shop's location.

By the time he spoke to this writer, he had not picked his results yet from hos former school although he expressed optimist that he would perform well.
