Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has called on city residents to reject flamboyant senator Mike Sonko who is gunning for the gubernatorial seat during the August polls.

Sonko is eyeing the city's top seat on a Jubilee Party ticket after he trounced 2013 presidential candidate Peter Kenneth during the primaries.

Speaking on Tuesday, Kidero poked holes on Sonko's candidature, accusing the lawmaker of engaging in "theatrics" in a bid to win the electorates' support.

"Nairobi is not a town for circuses... ni ya wale watu wamekomaa (it's for people who are mature). We do not have to shout like some people who, if they give Sh10, call the media to capture what they are doing," he stated.

Kidero further defended his four and half year tenure, saying he had delivered on key pledges made to the electorate in the run up to the 2013 general elections.

"We have done roads, hospitals...17 dispensaries are now 24-hour...we have built maternity and modern mortuary facilities at Mbagathi, modernised City mortuary, built an inpatient hospital in Mutuini...and schools," he said.

He will be seeking re-election on an ODM Party ticket and has retained Jonathan Mueke as his running mate.
