Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has sacked his financial advisor on allegations of misconduct.

Kidero on Friday directed Nairobi county secretary Robert Ayisi to immediately terminate Martin Ogindo's contract as the economic planning, finance and strategy advisor.

"Your contract with the Nairobi City County government is hereby terminated with effect from the date on this letter (December 30) on account of violation of the terms of your contract and conflict of interest," reads the letter in part.

His sacking comes a day after Ogindo launched his new political party Green Congress of Kenya (GCK).

According to the Star, the former Rangwe MP (2008-2013) intends to vie for the seat again in the coming general elections.

Kidero is quoted as saying that Ogindo was in "gross violation of his contract ... by involving himself in politics as opposed to professionally advising the county."

Although calls to him went unanswered, Ogindo has written to Kidero thanking him "for the opportunity to serve" at the county government.

"I want to wish everyone well as I take full responsibility for my actions," he said.
