With the focus on the many street families in Nairobi City and its outskirts, Kidero said that such families come from across the country and so the City Hall should not be solely tasked to address the issue.

Speaking in Nairobi, the governor urged the National Treasury to allocate the Nairobi County government a special fund in its budget to rehabilitate the many street families in its streets. Kidero lamented that at the moment, the county has no fund targeted at street families because its budget is such tight and that the national government in its annual disbursements to counties has no such establishment. He further hinted that all other counties in the country should show support and stand in solidarity with Nairobi County in its efforts to settle the families, noting that each county is represented in the street families flooding the city.

In a bid to seek government intervention, Kidero blasted the devolution ministry for its failure to remit monies to address the street families as earlier agreed in 2015 before the historic visit of President Obama to Kenya. However, the Permanent secretary in the devolution ministry, Mabruki, has denied the allegations terming them as untrue.
