Governor Kidero’s administration has been criticised for failing to reduce the number of street families that wind up in the streets daily.

Traders and pedestrians have pointed fingers at the county government for letting the street families back into the CBD just some months after pledging to address the situation.

The sudden invasion of the numerous street families in the prime commercial areas of the city has allegedly been cited as a security threat to shoppers and traders alike.

According to Fredrick Aringo, the Tuskys bus terminus branch manager, the street boys usually camp outside the retail outlets hence scaring away potential customers.

"These street boys are violent and dangerous. Recently, they cornered a civilian who was from the supermarket snatching a Sh1,000 note from her,’’ he said.

Aringo further stated that their pleas with the City Hall to help remove the urchins from the area have proved futile with Kidero's government turning a deaf ear towards them.

Traders in Haile Selassie and Moi Avenue, Tom Mboya Street, Mfangano Street, Kirinyaga Road and River Road have also raised similar concerns but to no avail.

The city traders say the street urchins flooding the town have homes. Most of them come from Kibera and Mukuru.
