Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero has dismissed a report by the Auditor General Edward Ouko, which indicate his County government failed to account for more than Sh20 billion.

The report indicated that billions of the taxpayer's monies collected on-behalf of the County government, are put together with other incomes collected by JamboPay's WebTribe, making it impossible to know how much the County collects annually.

JamboPay is an online payment system, that the County government uses to collect taxes and other fees from the city residents.

Kidero downplayed the report, saying it was impossible for Sh20 billion to be mismanaged, yet the County government allocated Sh23 billion  for the County in the 2014/2015 Financial Year.

Speaking in his office, Kidero said the national government allocated Sh12 billion for the County while City Hall collected a total of Sh11 billion as taxes in the 2014/2015 Financial Year, totaling the amount to Sh23 billion.

He on Monday said the amount had been in-use to run various projects and services for Nairobi residents.

According to him, Sh3 billion could only be used to pay salaries for workers, which means, no operations would be done across the Country, if the report was true.

"If we lost Sh20 billion, that means we only had sh3 billion as the only money to run the County. Sh3 billion can only be used to pay salaries. What then did we use in development projects?'' he said.
