Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero has strongly criticised the central government over its alleged delays in disbursing funds meant for county governments.
Issuing the scathing attack via his Twitter account, Kidero noted that the national treasury is out to frustrate development projects in counties across the country.
‘'So far the county governments have only managed to receive a minute figure of Sh653 billion shillings out of the proposed one trillion which is not even enough to sustain meaningful developments in the 47 counties in the land,’' the governor said.
The governor further expressed that since devolution of various public services three years ago, the central government under the Jubilee coalition is yet to show its full support as required by the constitution.
It should be remembered that county bosses have in the recent past engaged in heated debates with the central government with a section of them seeking more services to be devolved.
Among the issues that counties need to be under their watch include the education services which has yet been publicly opposed by major teacher unions in the country. With these emerging, there has also been a public call by health practitioners to have the already devolved health services be reverted to the national government.
