The Evans Kidero Foundation has been de-registered after it was found to have financial irregularities.

According to NGO board executive director Fazul Mahamed, Kidero's organisation breached a number of sections in the Non-Governmental Organisations Coordination Act.

"Your organisation has breached the provisions of regulation 24 read together with clause 5 of the terms and conditions attached to your registration certificate by failing to file annual returns," says a letter from Mahamed.

It was also found that the foundation opened and operated a number of unauthorised bank accounts.

The director has now advised the asset recovery agency to conduct an audit of all assets owned by the foundation.

"The Central Bank of Kenya, the Financial Reporting Centre and the Family Bank Kilimani branch are advised to preserve all funds held under the Evans Kidero Foundation until further communication from this office," the letter further reads.

Mahamed said that several senior employees in the Nairobi county government are beneficiaries of the Kidero Foundation after allegedly receiving monies directly from the Family Bank account of the foundation.

"It is not clear why county government employees should receive any funds from the foundation. There are also several unexplained cash deposits amounting to millions of shillings made to the foundation from several companies that require further investigations," he added.

The Foundation was originally registered in October 2012.
