Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero was on Wednesday put on toes to explain why his county government awarded a revenue collection tender to a firm even as it retained an abnormal percentage of the collected money.
According to a signed agreement between Kidero's government and JamboPay Ltd, the company mandated to manage county's electronic payments was to retain 4.5 percent of all the collected revenue.
Senators expressed their anger on the fact that JamboPay was awarded the said contract despite the other two companies quoting lower fees for a similar role.
Virtual Mobile company and Craftsilcon would have each taken 2.5 percent of the recorded transactions as their fees.
However, efforts by the Public Accounts and Investment Committee to further get into the matter were blocked as Kidero insisted that they await report findings of a special audit that he had requested regarding the said contract.
The senators had sought to know reasons why the governor had failed to avail tender documents to the office of the Auditor General when the audit was being done, with the documents suddenly resurfacing just when the team was summoned before the Senate.
