Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero sent thousands of Kisii residents into laughter when he hit on Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko on city gubernatorial contest.
Mr Sonko on Friday had declared himself an acting president in absence of President Uhuru Kenyatta at a funeral in Ukambani.
And speaking to a number of Kisii town residents on Saturday, Kidero dismissed Sonko’s gubernatorial bid maintaining that he was not afraid of the flamboyant city Senator.
“I don’t have any worries on retaining my seat. I am the only Governor who will run against an acting president and I will beat him squarely in 2017 gubernatorial seat,” said Kidero amidst laughter.
“He doesn’t have any agenda about Nairobi people and I think on Friday people told him off when he failed to lead by example. He is my friend and I would just challenge him to consider defending his senatorial seat,” added Kidero.
Kidero defended his track record saying that he had improved sanitation, street lightening and empowering his people economically.
“We are the pioneer Governors and in every society, when a new idea like devolution starts, it must encounter a few challenges. However, I have empowered the people of Nairobi and I am sure of a reelection,” he said.
