Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has alleged a plot by the Jubiee administration to rig him out in the next general elections in favour of a Jubilee Party candidate.
Speaking on Tuesday, the governor further challenged the electoral body IEBC to come out clean on claims that the National Youth Service was secretly enlisting voters, after reports emerged that the agency personnel was caught registering voters at Loaf Primary School in Mowlem and PCEA Church in Karura, Runda Estate on Monday night.
“The exercise is proof that attempts are afoot to rigthe Nairobi county elections in a favour of a pre-determined candidate,” he said.
“If this was really an NYS recruitment exercise as they claim, why was Nairobi county not informed. How come the youth in specific areas were not informed?” he posed.
The government has since moved to deny that the National Youth Service is conducting voter registration, observing that the agency is instead registering beneficiaries of the Youth Empowerment Programme (YEM).
"The system used for biometric registration of NYScohorts is completely different from the one usedby IEBC," said Public Service CS Sicily Kariuki in a statement on Tuesday.
