In a statement to newsrooms on Wednesday, Kidero termed the move as a big win for Eastlands and Nairobi residents.

“This will ensure reduced traffic congestion, shorten traveling distance necessitating fare reduction, increase market access to products by traders and business people, and increase property values,” read the statement in part.

He, however, faulted the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for illegally obtaining the 5,000 acre piece of land, saying “it is very unfortunate that it had to take the intervention of the President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite a court order for KDF to reopen the access route.”

He reiterated his government's commitment to reclaiming all illegally acquired public land in the county, adding that he will do all within his power to revert the same for public use.
