Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero claims the current 500 percent revenue growth in Nairobi under Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is temporary.

Kidero says its normal for for Nairobi county to receive large amounts of money at the beginning of the month.

He further highlighted that over 30.000 matatu operators in Nairobi pay their parking ticket fees in the first week of the month.

“The increase in revenue being bandied around is all lies. We know that seasonal parking tickets for the 30,000 matatus in Nairobi is paid in the first week of the month and so it is not a surprise that the money was collected. It has been collected in every first week of the month,” Kidero stated.

Kidero says during his time as governor, Nairobi County managed to raise revenue from Sh5 billion to Sh12 billion while also introducing automated payment system, ‘ejiji pay’, for parking services.

He also asked the current regime to acknowledge projects he started at City hall after Sonko announced that revenue from City Hall increased from Sh7 million to Sh38 million.
