Speaking during a Sunday church service at Mavuno Church in Lavington, Kidero disclosed that there are approximately over 100,000 kids already within the school-going age who are not learning despite the fact that primary education has been fully subsidized by the government.

The City boss further said that there are about 500, 000 children in primary schools within the city and that around 47, 500 of them sit for the KCPE examinations each year, with only 22, 000 transiting to secondary schools to continue with their studies.

“In Nairobi County, only 6, 000 children of the 22, 000 who annually join secondary schools complete their studies to join universities and mid-level colleges. The rest of them are just out there at the estates and we all know the outcome of having idle youths,” he said.

As a means of addressing the issue, the City boss issued that he would come up with more innovative ways to make up new jobs and address the ever rising figure of youth unemployment in the city.
