Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is demanding an apology from the Nation Media Group after the Daily Nation newspaper published articles allegedly against his character.
Kidero has threatened to sue the media house unless they apologise “in the same manner, emotion, skill, pulse and prominence allocated to the offensive articles.”
Through his lawyer Tom Ojienda, the governor has said that two articles that appeared on December 5 (titled: Sh20 Billion audit shocker for county) and December 8 (titled: Fresh bid to probe Kidero NGO’s cash) were done maliciously to attack him.
“For avoidance of doubt, I intend to pursue this matter through legal redress to its logical conclusion to protect my rights and also protect my family who have immensely suffered from these persistent attacks,” reads Kidero’s demand letter.
According to the first article which was done after the Auditor General made a report on Nairobi County’s financial accounts, Kidero said the article pictures him as corrupt since “it seems to suggest that an audit query is the same or amounts to corruption.”
Of the second story, Kidero says:
“The source of the story is unnamed from the NGO Coordination Board. It is unethical, unfair and morally wrong to run a story with grave accusations and contrived lies without mention of the source and evidential support,” the governor said.
“It remains speculative, irreverent and hurtful to the intended victim certainly to wield maximum desecration of image but avoid responsibility at all costs,” he added.
