Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is under fire from the auditor general over the misappropriation of county funds during his time in office.
According to Auditor General, Edward Ouko , the governor used Sh580 million for legal funds paid outside the Integrated Financial Management Information Systems.
Nairobi County exceeded its provisional budget of Sh100 million thus raising several questions as to reasons behind the 480 percent increase.
“No authority for the supplementary expenditure was sought from the county assembly, which is contrary to the law,” said Ouko as reported by The Standard.
The auditor general also says after reviewing the internal controls system there would several abnormalities.
“Controls over issuance and accountability over the clamps are weak and prone to manipulation. For instance, there is no system for monitoring field officers' activity on the clamped vehicles whether paid or not,” he said.
