Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero is under the lime light after an audit report said that his government did not account for at least 21 billions.
KPMG East Africa auditing firm has brought to light, in a report that will be handed over to Governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi this week, that 21.89 billion was not accounted for by Kidero when he left the office.
The report from KPMG East Africa says that Kidero's handover report did not feature anywhere, the 21.89 billion.
“More than Sh21.89 billion in payments was not recorded so we cannot know who was paid, and 7,346 manual revenue collection receipt booklets were deleted from the digital system,” said Mark Bunyi, the KPMG East Africa Associate Director in charge of Forensics.
KPMG East Africa also reported that the handover report from Dr. Kidero to governor Sonko reduced the county’s debts by more than Sh1.5 billion.
“We found Sh1.5 billion more pending bills when we checked individual departments, which was different from what was in the handover report. This means the liability is more,” added Brian De Souza, who is the head of Risk Consulting in KPMG East Africa.
Nairobi Governor l Mike Sonko said during the briefing with the KPMG East Africa on 07/03/2018, that all those who would have messed up with the county's money shall be brought to books.
“We shall get to the bottom of this matter. All the culprits will be brought to book,” said Sonko.
