The Evans Kidero Foundation has also been given two weeks to present audited accounts and the annual returns for the past four years without which the Non-Governmental Organisations Coordination Board will deregister it.

According to a December 13 letter by NGO Coordination Board Executive Director Fazul Mahamed, the foundation has been accused of illegally opening and operating bank accounts contrary to Section 12 (4) of the NGOs Coordination Act and Clause 10 of its terms and conditions.

Mr Mahamed also accused the foundation of failing to file annual statutory financial returns “on the aggregate of funds (and) donations, nature of the funds, donor identity, sources of fund, assets acquired and general operations of the foundation”.

However, chairman of the foundation Mr Phillip Opondo on Tuesday said they were yet to receive the said suspension letter, refuting claims that his organisation was running an illegal bank account.

He also blamed the current accusations on Kidero's political rivals whom he said were trying to use the organisation to bring the governor down.
