Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has refuted claims that he rooted for President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2017 reelection bid during an agricultural show held two weeks ago in the city.
Speaking to Radio Maisha on Wednesday, the ODM governor said his sentiments were blown out of proportion and maintained that he only meant that he would welcome Uhuru as an ordinary Kenyan or as a farmer and not as president in the October 2017 celebrations.
"The whole statement was blown out of proportion. I meant that I would welcome the president as an ordinary Kenyan or as a farmer which he is and not really as president," he said.
Kidero was quoted during the Nairobi International Trade Fair allegedly telling the president that he looks forward to seeing him during next year's celebrations, a statement that did not go down well with a section of the opposition supporters who accused the city boss of playing double standards.
