Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero. [PHOTO/the-star.co.ke] has decided to terminate cases against boda boda riders operating in the CBD and ordered that their motorcycles be unconditionally released.
However, According to County Secretary Robert Ayisi on Tuesday, only 17 motorcycles have so far been collected after riders produced documents of ownership.
Ayisi said Kidero's pardon came on the single condition that they leave the city's CBD immediately.
“We advised them to be very good citizens and keep off the central business district. There should be no parking and no obstruction,” he said.
Through their chairman Ken Onyango, the riders promised to comply with the new directive and said they would leave the city centre.
“This is a good gesture for majority of youths who earn their living through riding,” said Onyango.
Last year, the riders moved to court after county askaris allegedly kicked them out of the city area but they lost their case.
Justice Joseph Onguto said they failed to prove to court that their rights had been violated when City Hall ordered them out of the city square.
Their operations were also banned according to provisions of the Traffic Act 2014 CAP 403.
