Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has responded to reports that he has been bankrolling Raila Odinga’s campaigns using county funds.
Kidero termed the reports as “lies” and “rumour mongering”.
This follows claims by President Uhuru Kenyatta during a Jubilee rally in Nairobi on Saturday that he has been using county cash to fund Nasa campaigns.
Uhuru said that since the county, under Governor Mike Sonko, now collects 40 million daily, while Kidero’s administration collected Sh7 million daily, was a clear testimony that the latter was swindling county cash.
“The difference is what our colleagues used to pocket and use for their evil deeds,” he said, as quoted by The Star.
Kidero termed Uhuru’s utterances unpresidential and rumour mongering.
“We have never given money from the county government to NASA or their co-principals and the statement by the President was very unfortunate,” he said.
He added, “They should not panic. We are requesting our President to act presidential because the presidency is a symbol of national unity and if there is any legacy every President wants to leave, it is that of unity where people feel included and not sidelined,” Kidero said.
Odinga last week asked Kenyans to contribute towards his campaigns ahead of the repeat presidential elections on October 17.
