Kenya is on the brink of disintegrating, former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has warned.
The rising political temperatures over the repeat presidential election, Kidero has said, risks plunging the country into anarchy.
In an opinion piece published by The Standard, the former county boss said the current political impasse cannot be solved by any institution but only by the leading political players; President Uhuru Kenyatta and his rival NASA leader Raila Odinga.
"The current political crisis and the future of this country lies in the hands of Uhuru and Raila. I wish to therefore respectively call upon the two to sit around a table and guided by the Almighty God and sober leaders, negotiate the future of this country," he said.
Kidero said that it is only dialogue, not chest thumping, that will save the country from breaking apart.
"They (Uhuru and Raila) have told the country that they are not enemies and political competition should not degenerate into enmity. They said that when things get hot they normally call each other. Let them do it now and be seen together in the public. Our country will heal," Kidero added.
