Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero has unveiled a multi million project that is geared to fighting unemployment in the vast city county.
The initiative dubbed 'Green Light Project' is said to cost Sh180 million and is a joint project between Nairobi County and the government of Korea.
Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony in Nairobi on Monday, Kidero noted that the initiative will benefit most youths in the informal sector who wish to be self employed.
‘‘The project is in line with our government’s objective of availing an effective and affordable vocational mentorship opportunities to boost economic and financial empowerment especially for our vulnerable in the city. Technical skills are very vital for poverty eradication and sustainable economic development in our country,” said Kidero.
On the other hand, the Korean official, Chang-Muk Choi noted that his organisation will fully support the project with the intention of empowering the jobless youth residing within the low income residential areas in the city.
“I totally support the establishment of the training centre. We look forward to encourage the development of community-operated businesses in a bid to positively impact on local operators. It is our optimism that the center will further alleviate unemployment, particularly on the young and highly productive youth in the city of Nairobi," stated Choi.
The project will be based in Dandora and is targeted at youth from Kibera, Mathare and residents from other low income residential areas across the county.
