Police in Machakos town on Friday night rescued two kidnap suspects from a rowdy mob after they attempted to kidnap a eight-year-old boy in Miwani area in Machakos town constituency.
According to Machakos township senior chief Joshua Kimeu, residents heard the cries of the little boy who was being forced into a vehicle by the two suspects and ran to his rescue.
Chief Kimeu said that the residents confronted the suspects who seemed to be strangers and rescued the boy thus raining beatings on them.
Luckily, a police vehicle was passing by and some of the residents notified them of the matter at hand. The chief asked residents to be vigilant and teach their little children to avoid trusting strangers or else they may fall victims of kidnapping.
He also asked Nyumba kumi members to up their game in ensuring the security of the residents more so little children.
The parents of the little boy who reside in the area appeared and accompanied the police to Machakos police station.
The suspects, a woman and a man are being held at Machakos police station as they wait to appear in court on Monday and face attempted kidnap charges as police commence investigation.
