A centre for Kidney Patients was on Wednesday launched in Ruiru town, Kiambu by the County Governor william Kabogo.
Governor Kabogo said that the Kidney Research Kenya together with the University of Toledo will work together with the national government in the construction of the Sh 140 million renal centre in Ruiru town.
Governor Kabogo who was speaking at the symposium on the kidney and renal health that was held in Ruiru welcomed the partnership and said that it was going to improve the lives of patients who have kidney problems.
"The national government needs to ensure that it creates awareness on the cost of the trips to and from India and also instill confidence in our local health services. The number of patients who have been flying to India to seek health services is too high and we hope that this facility will help such patients,” said Kabogo.
Kabogo said that the partnership is aimed at ensuring that all kidney-related complications can be handled in the country.
"We are grateful to Kenyatta University who have shown their interest in providing consumables worth Sh 1 million per annum and also they have assured us that they are going to provide the human resource,” Kabogo said.
The governor urged the Cabinet Secretary involved in health issues to ensure that he sources for other donors and well wishers who can help this country when it comes to health issues.
"We currently have only one referral hospital that is Kenyatta National Hospital that is treating kidney failure patients. We need to have several hospitals that can do that,” said Kabogo.
