Kidney Research Kenya and the University of Toledo will work with the government to build the Sh140 million renal centre in Ruiru town with 20 dialysis units.

Kabogo who was speaking in Melsungen, Germany, where he signed a partnership agreement with Christopher Boeffel, the Vice President of B BRAUN Medical and Pharmaceutical Company, said he remains committed to the prevention and treatment of renal diseases.

“It’s our sincere wish to have kidney centre become reality in Ruiru and hopefully our first ever kidney transplantation by our own Kiambu doctors who are in training abroad performing this operation. That is our goal,” he said.

Kabogo also said the number of patients flying to India for transplant and other renal services is too high and the centre will serve to reduce cost and time.

At the same time, Kabogo has held high-level meetings with fluids production companies for a possible set up of a local base for production of liquids and electrolytes for Kiambu hospitals.

Currently, the county has one renal unit housed at Thika Level Five that saves hundreds of patients the struggle of going to Nairobi in search of treatment.
