Kiganjo bodaboda operators have been called upon to obey traffic rules ahead of the festive season when many road accidents and deaths are recorded.
Speaking to the operators at Kiganjo Kona One Stage on Thursday, Makongeni OCS Samuel Khisa particularly warned the operators against speeding on the narrow stretch of the road that connects Kiganjo to Garissa Highway at the BAT Junction.
"I appeal to all of you and even the motorists to obey the traffic rules moreso at this critical time we are about to start the festivities," said Khisa.
He added: "You understand that the Kiganjo-Makongeni road is very narrow and a motorist or a rider would hardly escape causing an accident especially when on a high speed if for instance they slumped on a vehicle coming from the opposite direction."
Khisa said that they will increase patrols in the area during the festive season to ensure that the operators were adhering to traffic rules.
Kiganjo Bodaboda Association Chairman Patrick Muiruri, however, promised that his members will observe the traffic rules while asking the OCS to ensure that his officers do not harass the operators.
"We are ready to obey the traffic rules and cooperate with the Police but we request that our members do not get harassed or accused on flimsy grounds," Muiruri said.
