According to the locals, there is a high level of criminal activities in the area.

The locals alleged that criminals are easily prowling the area and causing them sleepless nights.

Speaking on Tuesday, Anne Wanja , a vegetable vendor at Kiganjo estate said that criminals are terrorising residents, especially business people.

“Crime has become the order of the day in this area especially near Corner 1 Junction,” she alleged.

Wanja said that most of the crimes are being perpetrated by youths.

“Our young people have fallen vulnerable to criminal gangs and are now causing as sleepless nights,” she said.

Boniface Ngunjiri, a bodaboda operator at the Kiganjo estate said that they now fear for their business.

He said that three cases of bodaboda operators being hijacked and robbed have been reported in the past one month.

“We are worried that we might close our work because of insecurity,” he said.

The bodaboda operator said that criminals pose as passengers only to pounce on the operators in the middle of their journeys.

John Karume, area youth leader said that young people aged 15-22 had fallen to crime.

He said that they are working with the police to discourage young people from joining criminal gangs.

Responding to the locals concerns, Thika Sub County deputy commissioner (DCC) Tom Anjere said that security will be heightened in the area.

The DCC said that he has received the local’s complaint and is being worked on.

He appealed to the locals to collaborate with police and provide information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals.
