Speaking in Kamwangi on Friday, Kigo urged the youth to refrain from being misused by leaders to fight their political rivals.

He said, “We have seen instances where the youths are paid as little as Sh100 to jeer and boo politicians in public gatherings. Instead of creating job opportunities for these unemployed youth, they buy alcohol for them and use them to disrupt public meetings.”

“These leaders are against development and no one should be bought to fight political battles on behalf of them,” Kigo added.

Kigo’s remarks came in the light of increased cases of disruption of public gatherings by rowdy youths, a vice that has hit Kiambu County owing to the clear political differences among its leaders. He also called upon the leaders to exercise responsibility and focus on uniting the people.

“All leaders should avoid dragging the public especially the youth into destructive politics where they want to settle personal scores with their rivals. Remember you were elected to serve the public, not to fight your political enemies,” he added.

At the same time, Kigo called for the finance and the executive personnel mandated to oversee payment of retired civil servants to pay the retired teachers.

“Most retired teachers have been languishing in poverty for years. These are the teachers who taught these elites in power and we cannot watch them suffer.  Payment for these teachers has been accommodated in the budget and they should therefore be given their share,” he added.
