Appeals Court judge Kihara Kariuki would take charge as government's legal adviser after shocking resignation of Githu Miugai.
In a tweet that ended speculation over Muigai's future, President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed receiving resignation from perhaps one of his trusted lieutenant.
"I have received with regret the resignation of Attorney General Githu Muigai. I thank him for the service he offered for the last six years.
"I have nominated Paul Kihara Kariuki as his replacement," Uhuru said in a tweet ending speculations about Muigai's future.
With certainly surrounding October following Judge George Odunga's ruling that declared recruitment of IEBC officials null and void, Kariuki quickly used appeals court to quash the decision.
Serving as president of the court, he constituted a three bench judge that quashed the high court ruling hours to October 26th elections which had been boycotted by Raila Odinga.
Speculations over Muigai's uncertainty became public when Uhuru failed to nominate him along with cabinet ministers as required by the law.
