Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika on Saturday evening charmed and won many youths to her side during a women and leadership forum held at Nakuru’s Legacy Hotel where she was the chief guest.
The event organised by Fatumas Voice, saw a full house where the amiable speaker was accompanied by several elected and nominated female MCAs.
Although politics came into play, Kihika, mostly focused on her life history and even recited a poem during the occasion.
“I am a free spirited woman and I believe in going after what I want in life,” said the youthful speaker as she narrated how she got to be a prosecutor and a lawyer in the US before returning to the country to try her hand in politics.
“I came back to Kenya in August 2012 after 20 years in America and barely six months later was I in the race vying for the Bahati parliamentary seat,” revealed Kihika, adding that she was very green in Kenyan politics then and made many blunders from which she has learnt from.
“Had I known what I know now about Nakuru politics maybe I would not have tried my hand in politics then but thank God for my ignorance then,” said the Speaker humorously.
The county speaker engaged a lot of the participants after the session listening to them and taking photos with them.
“I’ve always heard of the speaker described as the iron lady but I am really impressed and charmed by her down to earth manner,” said Xavier Kumwaka an artist from Nakuru who met the Speaker for the first time.
