Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has condemned violence in some parts of the country on Thursday during the repeat presidential election.

Speaking after casting her vote at Kagongo polling centre in Bahati constituency, Kihika accused the Opposition leaders of using youths for selfish gains.

"People are losing lives because of reasons that can be avoided by maintaining peace. We should not allow a one-day exercise to ruin the whole country," she said on Thursday.

The same sentiments were echoed by Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Joel Kairu who said violence will hurt the economy.

"I am pleading with Jubilee Party supporters to maintaining peace even after the election. High political temperatures are bad for the country as investors will be scared away," Kairu said.

At least three people were killed and scores injured in protests against the fresh polls in various parts of the country.
