Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has broken her silence days after a chopper carrying members of her communication team crashed in Lake Nakuru.

The tragic helicopter crash on Saturday morning claimed three of her staff.

The victims were attending a Jubilee Party rally in Narok County.

Speaking for the first time since the accident, Kihika said she was traumatised by the crash.

"Following the unfortunate incident last Saturday, my most sincere hope has been that we would at least have survivors," she said.

The former Speaker of the Nakuru County Assembly told Daily Nation on Thursday that she was hoping for a miracle to happen.

"I have deliberately avoided making any statement in the sincere hope that a miracle might happen," she said as she sent condolences to family of the victims.

The campaign chopper had five people on board, including Kihika's team - Sam Gitau, John Mapozi and Anthony Kipyegon - and Veronicah Kamau, as well as the pilot, Apollo Malowa.

Two bodies - that of the pilot and Kipyegon - have already been recovered.

The Senator said she had not only lost members of her staff but also close friends.

"Their death is not only a loss to the families and friends but to the country that has lost young, energetic, focused, passionate and promising young souls," she added.
