Parents have been urged to be more cautious during this festive season, as most young people are easily lured into using drugs.

Nakuru County assembly speaker Susan Kihika says there has been an increased number of school going children who have become drug addicts from peer pressure and lack of parental advice.

Speaking when she visited a number of churches within Bahati Ward, Dundori Ward, and Elburgon Town on Sunday, Kihika challenged the believers to pray, advice and lead young Kenyans through the way of the lord.

“Something is somehow wrong with our young people. That is why a few weeks ago we were shocked to hear these stories of young children as young as 9, involving themselves in immoral activities,” said Kihika.

While acknowledging the church for its role in raising a morally upright society, Kihika said that good leadership starts from the church.

She was accompanied by her deputy James Tuwei, Bahati MCA Peter Nderitu Mwangi and Kabatini Ward MCA Paul Thuo.

Speaking at St Augustine Catholic Church in Bahati where the four donated Sh40 thousand to support the church build a new branch, Tuwei said ‘devolution is still young’ and needs to be handled carefully.

“We elected our first leaders under the new constitution, therefore don’t be too harsh on your leaders because we are all committed to ensure that we bring services close to you. That is the spirit of devolution, but we must be patience,” Tuwei said.

Kihika did not mention her political interest come 2017, though she has said she will be on the ballot box seeking the senatorial seat.
