With the ongoing unrest in schools nationwide, Nakuru county Speaker Susan Kihika has hit out at parents and society at large blaming them for not instilling discipline in their children.
Kihika said there is need for parents to ensure discipline of their children.
Kihika was speaking in Solai, Rongai sub-county on Wednesday during the burial of the late Inspector John Waweru where she said there is need for parents to talk to their children concerning discipline.
"We are all aware of what is happening in our schools and my appeal is that let we as parents help the society by talking to our children on the importance of discipline,"said Kihika.
She noted that the issue of dealing with unrest in schools should not be left to Education CS alone but parents and a society at large have a responsibility.
Her sentiments were echoed by Riftvalley Regional AP commandant Francis Kirathe.
Kirathe said discipline is paramount in society adding that the indiscipline being experienced in schools is due to the fact that parents are not playing their role of mentorship.
Their sentiments come even as Education CS Dr.Fred Matiang'i attribute the unrest in schools to poor management.
The catholic Church through the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops Education Committee chair Bishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba raised concern over the same. The church has now urged the government to address the issue immediately.
