A section of Kihoto and Kabati residents in Naivasha have appealed to the sub county government to supply them with clean drinking water.
The residents complain that their taps have run dry for the last two weeks and are now at risk of contracting water related diseases.
On Saturday, the residents complained that they have not seen water following the flooding that rocked the area three weeks ago.
Patricia Esendi, a local at Kihoto Estate says that her tap has been dry for days and has been forced to buy water from vendors. She said that supply stopped following the heavy rains that have been experienced in the area.
“I have been with no water for two weeks now and we are depending on vendors for supply,” she said.
The local said that supply could have been hampered by the heavy floods and asked the Naivasha Sewerage and Water Company to intervene.
In Kabati estate, the story was the same, with locals resorting to buying water from vendors. Patrick Kimilu, a resident said that water supply has been cut for the last two weeks.
He said that the precious commodity is being now sold expensively by vendors.
“With cases of cholera still imminent, we are even afraid of buying water from vendors,” said Kimilu.
Naivasha has been receiving heavy rainfall for the past days with instances of flooding in some estates.
Meanwhile, two people from Kabati estate have tested positive to cholera. The two, according to the sub county health officials tested positive and have been treated and admitted at the Naivasha district hospital.
Naivasha sub-county hospital medical superintendent Dr Oren Ombiro said the two were brought to the facility on Saturday.
Ombiro said they have been admitted with their situation closely being monitored. It is the first case of cholera to be confirmed in Naivasha Sub County.
Cholera has so far led to the death of 16 people in other parts of Nakuru, according to information from the county public health department.
