Residents of Naivasha area in Kihoto threatened to sue their MP John Karanja Kihagi over the dumping of bottles and glasses in a local field.
The residents claimed that the beer and liquor bottles which were dumped during the raid on illicit liquor in the area last year have not been cleared posing a serious health hazard to the field users.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, the residents claimed that many of the children in the area had fallen victim of the situation.
“There is a school right next to where the glasses are and often children stop there to play with the pieces. The MP should have cleared the area," Peter Njoroge said.
Njoroge pointed out that the field, which had been used for public events was now an ugly site.
“The whole pile of glasses looks disturbing and something should be done to at least ensure that it is cleared from the area,” he added.
Footballers claimed that they could no longer practice in the field.
“We fear that we might end up hurt by the glasses or even have pieces in our eyes as we practice,” a player said.
Emily Mwangi, an environmentalist, pointed out that it might take years for the glass to be buried.
“Glass cannot decompose and hence it being left there can take at least ten years before it is disintegrated into the soil. This is a very long time,” Mwangi said.
Efforts to reach the area MP for a comment were unfruitful as his calls went unanswered.
