Speaking in her office today, Monday, traffic base Commander Inspector Elizabeth Wakuloba said that some bodaboda operators are simply careless, and do not observe traffic rules.

She added that Kiambu county government has built bodaboda shades that are meant to be a parking place as they wait for customers.

“Some of these operators simply park carelessly on roads leading to congestion, and most of those who do that are ignorant on other road users and should be dealt with in accordance to the law,” said the commander.

She added that most of these operators have abandoned the shades provided and are parking on the roadside, making it dangerous for road users, as it can cause accidents.

However, Wakuloba added that some accidents can be avoided, if only the law is followed and that should start with the operators themselves.

“It i upon the operators to observe traffic rules, because at the end of it all, they will be the ones to suffer on either being charged or even causing accidents,” emphasized the officer.

She further urged bodaboda operators to be situated at the various shades provided, and in case of an incident that they are many, they should park in sensible places that are safe for them and even other road users.

“I send a warning to bodaboda operators to be mindful on how and where they park their bodabodas, as they would be arrested if found with such offences,” she added.

According to Mwangi wa Mwangi, a bodaboda operator, most of these incidences happen because the number of bodaboda operators has increased, leading to a shortage of the shades.

He therefore urged the county government to consider these incidents and build more shades to enable them avoid this crime.
