Kikuyu couples have been told to ignore misconceptions on contraceptives but instead visit medical doctors for facts.
Speaking at a family planning campaign for couples in Kikuyu held at the Baraza Hall on Friday, Dr Thomas Irungu said misconceptions on using contraceptives should be addressed to stop the false rumours.
He said that the misconceptions have led to locals not visiting medical doctors for advice but instead believe the myths. The doctor explained that contraceptives are safe methods for family planning and do not cause any bad effects to women after using them.
Dr Irungu said that the drugs are well examined before they are introduced into the market.
"No complications will be experienced when a lady stops using them and wants to give birth," said the doctor.
He added, "The problem is there is a lot of traditional thinking, something that should come to an end. We are moving and it is time people move with the world and embrace such methods and stop living in the past," said Dr Irungu.
Dr Irungu, however, urged couples to visit various medical doctors for family planning methods advice that suit them.
