The newly crowned Kikuyu Council of Elders Chairman Mwangi Thuita has condemned church initiation saying that it is against Kikuyu cultural practices.
Speaking on Monday in Thika town, Mwangi said the church circumcision is being dogged by several lies and misleading information.
"The church is good and the Bible is good. But circumcision matters are not for the church; they belong to the elders who understand the whole thing," said Mwangi.
“Money is all what most of these churches are after. So, you will take your boy there, some verses are read to him but nothing about initiation and traditions are taught to him," added Mwangi.
He also asked women to keep off initiation matters, saying that is a solely men affair.
"Women are not allowed to see the initiates including their own children. It is against our traditions but it is happening," said Thuita.
Thuita was crowned to take the leadership vacancy that was left following Njenga Karume's death. Elders drawn from Nyeri, Nakuru, and Thika were in attendance.
