Kikuyu Elders Welfare Association, Kiambu County Branch has come out strongly to reject the legalisation of formation of gays and lesbians rights groups.
The association, led by Njoroge Gatura and Peter Mugogo has termed the move as sacrilegious and offensive to African traditions, morals and culture.
“In the past, we as the Kikuyu people did not condone the behaviour of men sleeping with other men. If a man was found doing that it was regarded as abnormal and that man was either supposed to be thrown in a waterfall or be put in a beehive and be rolled downhill or be clubbed to death,” said Gatura.
"The issue of ladies sleeping with other ladies was not there and is completely western,” he added.
The elders have asked the courts to be sensitive when making some decisions, which may undermine the rich African culture which is fast fading away.
“We will join hands with the Church which has also rejected this ruling to pray for our country. Let the courts not be the one bringing disharmony among people by making controversial rulings because of their own self-interests,” said Mugogo.
